Box Office Bioethics

Box Office Bioethics is the Council's new film competition that aims to get young people making short films about contemporary bioethics issues.   

Who is eligible to enter?

The competition is open to individuals or groups of students in the UK and Republic of Ireland. It may be of particular interest for students working towards an Extended Project Qualification (EPQ). There are three student categories:

  • Year 11 and under

  • Years 12 & 13 

  • Undergraduate 

What should the films be about?

Films can be about any bioethics topic, providing that it falls within the biological and medical sciences and the ethical dimensions of the issue are clearly presented and explored. (You can find out more about eligibility by reading the competition rules and FAQs).

When does the competition open and close?

Submissions will be accepted from 19 September 2011 until 24 February 2012. Judging will take place during early spring and the winners will be announced shortly afterwards. The winning entries will be shown at the Nuffield Council on Bioethics annual public lecture in London in May 2012.  

Are there any prizes?

The winner in each category will receive:

  • £200 Amazon vouchers (per team)

  • Your film being shown at the Council’s annual public lecture (spring 2012 - date TBC)

  • Travel and accommodation costs provided (if appropriate) for representatives of the winning team to attend the Council’s annual public lecture, to be presented with the vouchers and certificate

  • Your film announced as the winning entry on the Council’s website 

The runner up in each category will receive:

  • £50 Amazon vouchers (per team)

  • Your film featured on the Council’s website
