Statement in response to recent media coverage on the treatment of premature babies
Mon, 27 March 2006
The Nuffield Council on Bioethics convened a Working Party in October 2004 to consider the ethics of critical care decisions in fetal and neonatal medicine. The group includes neonatologists, philosophers, lawyers, a health economist, and advisors in child disability and the views and experiences of parents.
A public consultation was held from April to June 2005. Around 100 responses were received and these are being carefully considered by Working Party. The responses will be made publicly available, with permission from respondents, after the Council has published its final Report in November 2006.
