International Meeting of National Advisory Bodies
(formerly: Global Summit of National Bioethics Commissions)
Delegates from National Bioethics Commissions and Advisory Bodies meet together every two years to facilitate international dialogue in bioethics. These meetings provide an opportunity to share information and plans, and to explore issues of common interest from a comparative perspective.
Paris 2008
The Seventh International Meeting of National Bioethics Advisory Bodies was held in Paris on 1-2 September 2008. Council member Professor Hugh Perry gave a presentation on 'Incapacity: issues arising in dementia' at the meeting.
Beijing 2006
The Sixth International Meeting of National Bioethics Advisory Bodies was held in Beijing, China, on 4-6 August 2006. Harald Schmidt, Assistant Director of the Council, gave a presentation on the ethical issues surrounding advances in neuroscience. The 8th World Congress of Bioethics took place directly after this meeting, from 6-9 August. Here, Mr Harald Schmidt gave a presentation on the ethical issues surrounding public health.
Australia 2004
The Fifth International Meeting of National Bioethics Advisory Bodies took place in Canberra, Australia, in November 2004. The meeting was organised by the Australian Health Ethics Committee. The Nuffield Council and the new National Bioethics Commission of Brazil were invited to be on the Steering Committee.
Brasilia 2002
The Fourth Global Summit of National Bioethics Commissions took place in Brasilia, Brazil in November 2002. The Council acted as co-convenor for the Summit, with the Comité Consultatif National d'Ethique of France and the Department of Science and Technology of the Ministry of Health, Brazil. The meeting was attended by delegates and observers from 27 countries.
