The Ethics of Research Related to Healthcare in Developing Countries

Follow-up Workshop

Cape Town, South Africa

12 - 14 February 2004

A follow-up Workshop was held in February 2004 to explore developments in this area since the publication of the Report. The Workshop, co-hosted by the South African MRC and the Nuffield Council on Bioethics, was attended by 58 delegates from 28 countries.

The focus of the Workshop was to discuss and debate ethical and regulatory issues raised by new and recently revised guidelines and to identify obstacles to their effective implementation.

The mix of delegates, with diverse backgrounds and a wide range of experiences, facilitated very valuable discussion. The Workshop was organised by an international Steering Committee.
