Forward Look meeting 2007

The 2007 Forward Look meeting focussed on two main areas: the implications of the human genome project, and rationing healthcare resources. A number of guest experts were invited to give presentations on these topics to Council members and to take part in the debate. The morning concentrated on new developments in genetics, including the possibility of complete genome sequencing being available for US$1000 in the near future, and using diagnostic microarrays for prenatal genetic diagnosis. Participants spent the second half of the day discussing the difficulties and issues raised by rationing healthcare resources.

At its next meeting in June, the Council would consider the discussions that had taken place and decide whether any of the topics should be explored further.
