Genetically Modified Crops
Introduction
The introduction of genetically modified (GM) crops has become highly controversial in the UK and some other parts of the world. The safety of GM crops and their environmental impact are hotly debated issues.

GM crops Report coverA Working Party was formed in January 1998 to investigate the ethical and social issues associated with GM crops. Specific questions addressed include:
- the potential of GM crops
- commercial and legal implications
- implications for the developing world
- consumer concerns
- environmental concerns
- regulation and policy issues
The Report, published in May 1999, makes recommendations about the regulatory framework for GM crops, the potential of GM crops for developing countries, and methods of addressing public concerns.
