Emma Yhnell

Emma Yhnell is an internationally recognised and award-winning educator and science communicator based at Cardiff University, where she is also Associate Dean of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion and a Reader in Neuroscience. After earning a BSc in Biochemistry and a PhD in Huntington’s disease, Emma completed a clinical research fellowship that fuelled her commitment to making science accessible and engaging through science communication. A National Teaching Fellow and Senior Fellow of AdvanceHE, Emma received the Society for Neuroscience Education Award 2024 and the Society for Experimental Biology’s Outreach Engagement and Diversity Award 2025. Emma creatively blends interactivity and storytelling with infectious enthusiasm to challenge the traditional image of academia to make science more open, inclusive, and fun.
