New Director
The Council is pleased to announce the appointment of a new Director, Mr Hugh Whittall, who joined the Secretariat on 1 February 2007.
Hugh was previously a senior civil servant with the Department of Health, where he was head of the Human Tissue Branch, responsible for policy on transplantation, the use of human tissue, and death and bereavement. Before that he was Deputy Chief Executive of the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority and also spent three years at the European Commission (DG XII Research) where he worked on the ethical, legal and social aspects of biomedicine and health. Having studied philosophy, and with extensive policy experience, Hugh brings a long standing interest in ethical issues related to science and medicine.
