Sir Patrick Nairne: 1921-2013
All at the Council were saddened to hear that Sir Patrick Nairne, the first Chair of the Nuffield Council on Bioethics, died on 4 June 2013.
Sir Patrick chaired the Council in its early years from 1991-1996, during which time it published landmark reports on genetic screening, human tissue and xenotransplantation.
We are immensely grateful to Sir Patrick for giving the Council such an excellent starting point from which it could build its work and reputation, and for his ongoing support and interest in our work in his later years, which was sincerely valued by staff and members alike.
