Assisted dying is a complex, sensitive and ethically charged topic. Our project has aimed to provide robust and in-depth insights into public views that can help assist decision makers and contribute to the national conversation on assisted dying.
We commissioned Hopkins Van Mil, working with M.E.L Research and the Sortition Foundation to design, facilitate, and organise a series of surveys and a Citizens’ Jury to unpack people’s perspectives on assisted dying and the associated social, ethical, and practical considerations that underpin them.
In March 2025, we published a final report bringing together evidence and insights from both the Citizens’ Jury and nationally representative surveys, exploring deliberations fully. And in May 2025, we published an evaluation report which assesses the quality of the project’s design, delivery, outputs and outcomes, and analyses indications of credibility and impact.
This project was overseen by an Advisory Board, and the project team was also supported by a Content Group. The project was funded by a grant from the AB Charitable Trust.
